Being a musician takes one set of skills, but teaching takes a completely different set of natural gifts. More often than not, really good musicians are actually bad teachers. That's two different sets of giftedness! We take pride in not just being good musicians, but being good teachers, as backed by a Master’s in Education & having taught hundreds of students.
Every Student Has A Unique Giftedness
We understand that each student has his or her own giftedness & we use that to get him or her to learn music and fall in love with it.
A note for neurodivergent guitarists: with experience in psychology & giftedness, we are sensitive to neurodivergent learners and are willing to provide accommodating teaching styles. We believe that each student has his or her own unique giftedness, so accommodations are tailored. It may be shorter lessons, unique goals, or using different materials, for example.
“Practical Music Theory"
We teach what we've coined Practical Music Theory: the perfect balance of theory & fun. We get the student playing first, then learn the theory behind what they learned. This general approach helps students fall in love with music faster. We teach theory, but quickly put it to practice by learning songs that the family wants to learn. It’s an approach of explaining why each point of music theory matters practically.
Typically, a 45-minute lesson consists of 2-3 points of music theory, and a healthy amount of practicing it.
